By definition they occupy vast amount of space and hence provide the harassed mumbaikar an escape from the heat and traffic outside. Inside there is a carefully controlled climate where anyone can wander round to do some shopping or just to meet someone. Usually a shopping area with multiple shops and a concourse for predominantly or exclusively pedestrian use, many of them also include multiplexes where a film ticket is always available for viewing a film in any of the multiple screens inside.
All this comes at a slight price increase starting from the parking charges which are waived at some. Many also include food-courts and entertainment arcades so that any visitor need not go out for food and drinks.
